Abstract :

Traditional construction materials can be engineered from different types of nanomaterials. Out of a wide range of nanomaterials, graphene derivatives, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), nano titanium dioxide, nano silica, and nano iron oxide are attracting immense interests for the application in advancing concrete technology. Herein, this study exemplifies the advancement and compare the possibilities of nanomaterials applications in cement-based composites to develop high performance nano-engineered concrete with multifunctionality. Nano-engineered cement-based composites show the promise for multifunctionally such as high strength, durability performance, and smart functionality. Although the nanomaterials technology is still at the early stage and expensive, a high volume of research may significantly contribute to the reduction of the cost involved and their practical application in advanced infrastructure development.
